Welcome to the Boston University AM-PACTM Website

Overview:

The Boston University Activity Measure for Post Acute Care (AM-PACTM ), originally published in 2004, is an activity limitations instrument developed by researchers at Boston University’s Health and Disability Research Institute.  The World Health Organization’s International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) is the conceptual framework for the AM-PAC.  According to the ICF, an activity limitation is defined as “difficulty in the execution of a task or action by an individual.”

The AM-PAC measures functional outcome using  Item Response Theory (IRT) methodology  to overcome the limitations of traditional functional outcome measures (Jette and Haley, 2005).  Unlike traditional measures which are disease, condition, or setting-specific, the AM-PAC was designed to be used across patient diagnoses, conditions and settings where post acute care is being provided.  The AM-PAC is a comprehensive and precise point-of-care assessment of patient-related outcomes. For this reason, it is being used with increasing frequency in healthcare.
